Self-portrait with Brennan, 2013
I come, born and raised, from a queer state—one with unique shape, varying landscapes, and filled with many identities. Texas. The notion of a queer state, in terms of condition, is a theme in my art. I am often thinking about the formation of identities, especially for underrepresented communities, and how one’s physical and metaphorical landscapes can affect lived experiences. My work considers juxtaposing ideas of familiarity and isolation in order to reveal queer subtleties of personal history. In 2013, I received a Bachelor of Journalism with a focus in photojournalism and art history, and I currently reside in Chicago, IL.
